Funds raised will support CHANGE grants – cancer screening resources in underserved communities

In tandem with the NFL Draft, Skillz, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the NFL are teaming up this weekend to raise funds for Crucial Catch. This important initiative helps catch cancer early and addresses the unequal burden of cancer in underserved communities. The tournament will run from Saturday, May 1 at 10am PT until Sunday, May 2 at 10pm PT across several Skillz-powered games, detailed below. 

As a longtime partner of the Skillz Gaming for Good initiative, the American Cancer Society and Skillz have hosted various mobile esports tournaments to support the fight against cancer. More recently, Skillz also announced a multi-year agreement with the NFL to crowdsource a future mobile esport. As part of the collaboration, the two sports organizations will host a global game developer challenge which launched this week and is currently accepting proposals. 

Funds raised in this weekend’s tournament support the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Advocates implementing Nationwide Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE) program. In collaboration with the NFL, this program promotes health equity through community-based cancer prevention programs that increase access to necessary cancer screenings. Approximately 200,000 cancer deaths per year could be averted by eliminating barriers to prevention and treatment.
