Compete to Win in Skillz’ Gaming for Good Challenge to Save Lives and Dream of a World Without Cancer

Skillz-Powered Mobile Games Tournament Profiles Three Legendary Former NCAA Coaches Championing Coaches vs. Cancer in Partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society

Skillz and its longtime Gaming for Good partner the American Cancer Society (ACS) are teaming up to launch a competitive mobile games tournament in support of Coaches vs. Cancer, a partnership between ACS and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Launching in the spirit of the college tournament season, the campaign will be held every Sunday, including March 20, 27, and April 3, and will spotlight three legendary former NCAA coaches who are longtime supporters of ACS’s fight against cancer.

These featured coaches include:

  • Jim Calhoun, the Hall of Fame coaching star of St. Joseph’s University and former UConn men’s basketball coach.
  • Bobby Cremins, recognized as one of the greatest coaches in ACC history from the College of Charleston, Georgia Tech and Appalachian State.
  • Lon Kruger, who retired in 2021 with nearly 700 career wins as a collegiate head coach. He is the only coach in NCAA history to win NCAA tournament games with five different programs, including the University of Oklahoma, University of Nevada; Las Vegas, University of Illinois, University of Florida, and Kansas State University.

All three coaches will be featured (sharing words of encouragement on behalf of Coaches vs. Cancer) in a series of social video moments that will go live starting March 16 on Skillz Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn channels.

“As a four-time survivor of cancer, I believe that everything is beatable if you have that fighting spirit. I am a proud supporter of Coaches vs. Cancer and encourage everyone to have some fun, while playing to win in Skillz’ Gaming for Good tournament.”

Jim Calhoun, retired head coach of St. Joseph’s University and previously, the University of Connecticut. He is an active member of the Coaches vs. Cancer Council.

“I’ve been a champion of Coaches vs. Cancer for over two decades, and it’s a cause that remains near and dear to my heart. Whether you’re a fellow coach, a fan, player, or a part of our community, let’s unite together and play to save lives with Skillz.”

Bobby Cremins, retired head coach from the College of Charleston and formerly at Georgia Tech and Appalachian State; also an inaugural inductee in the Coaches vs. Cancer Circle of Honor.

“Coaches vs. Cancer is an incredible program that makes a positive difference in the lives of so many. We encourage everyone to get involved by playing in the Skillz mobile games tournaments. Team with us today and help us finish the fight against cancer.”

Lon Kruger, longtime basketball coach, and the only head coach to win a NCAA tournament game with five different programs. He is chair of the Coaches vs. Cancer Council and recipient of the Coaches vs. Cancer “Champion” Award.
