How to Play: Bid, Follow the Suit, and Take the Trick

• At the start of each hand, bid the number of tricks you think you can win.
• You can also bid Nil if you expect to win zero tricks.
• Follow the lead suit if possible; otherwise, you may play any card.
• The highest card of the lead suit wins the trick, unless a spade is played. If spades are played, the highest spade wins.
• Spades can’t start a trick until one has already been played on another suit.

Each trick is started by the player who won the previous one. Play strategically to win the tricks you need without going over and earning bags. 

Scoring, Bags, and Match Points

Imagine you bid 4 tricks in Round 1. You play smart and win 5.

• You earn +40 points for making your bid (4 × 10).
• That extra trick becomes 1 bag, which carries into Round 2.

In Round 2, you bid 5 tricks and win exactly 5 again.

• Another +50 points for meeting your bid.
• No extra bags this time, finishing with 1 bag total, under the 3 bag (–30 points) penalty.

Your final score: 90 points for solid, consistent bidding across both rounds, before any round bonuses are added based on how you finish against other players.

Pro Tips for Trick-Taking Success

• Bid carefully. Underbidding may cause you to earn bags, and overbidding costs you points.
• Save your spades for critical plays or to break another suit.
• Remember: the match is two rounds, and bags stack.
• Finish fast to maximize your time bonus.
