Season of Giving: Skillzians Volunteering

It’s the season of giving, and Skillzians are embracing the holiday spirit by giving back to our communities and the causes that mean the most to us.

One group of Skillzians joined the San Francisco Police Department, Mayor’s Office, and The Guardsmen in the San Francisco neighborhood of Hunter’s Point to bring 450 trees, lights and decorations to families in need.

There were also cookies, hot cocoa, and an appearance by Santa for the youngest guests. Volunteers worked together to saw and deliver trees to families, and the lot was decked out with holiday cheer – not even a little rain could dampen their spirits!

Another Skillzian spent her time volunteering with La Cocina by constructing holiday gift boxes full of tasty products for the organization to sell. The mission of La Cocina is to cultivate low income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses by providing affordable commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance, and access to market opportunities. They focus primarily on women from communities of color and immigrant communities, which profits from these box sales benefit.

Yet another Skillzian took her love of running to the next level by participating in the New York City Marathon, and for a great cause. She raised $2,500 to contribute to education, awareness, and research into curing skin cancer.

All employees are encouraged to give back in any way they can, and we’re proud to see Skillzians out in the community making a difference!
