Skillz Executive Miriam Aguirre Speaks at Tech Inclusion 2017 and The Alumni Society’s Leadership Summit!

If you’ve read our previous blog posts, you already know about our VP of Engineering, Miriam Aguirre. She works tirelessly to increase diversity and inclusion of underrepresented groups, both within gaming and in the tech industry as a whole.

Last week, Miriam took on yet another opportunity to speak about such causes at two different San Francisco conferences: The Alumni Society’s Leadership Summit and Tech Inclusion 2017.

The Alumni Society brings together Latino C-suite executives, high-achieving entrepreneurs, and thought leaders for a wide range of conversations aimed towards elevating Latino leadership in America. At the Leadership Summit, Miriam joined executives from Lyft, LinkedIn, HP, and Intel on a panel to discuss their experiences, challenges, and learnings as Latina leaders in the tech industry.

Tech Inclusion is an annual conference, also aimed at driving solutions to the lack of diversity and inclusion in the technology industry. This year’s focus was, “What will each do to ensure that we are driving an inclusive future for everyone?” At this event, Miriam spoke on the “Women in Gaming” panel alongside female leaders from Electronic Arts and Women in Games International on how she helps create content for a diverse audience and works to empower women in a historically male-dominated field.

“Both events were a great blend of celebrating our accomplishments in advancing diversity, yet still being very cognizant of the work we have left to do,” says Miriam. “The Leadership Summit was much more intimate, with frequent interaction between the audience and panelists. Tech Inclusion was a lot bigger in scale, so it was incredibly impressive and rewarding to see how many people were looking to be involved in improving diversity in tech.”

Thanks, Miriam, for always working to ensure equal opportunities and treatment throughout the tech and gaming industries! To learn more about Miriam, check out her Skillz Employee Spotlight blog post.
