Mobile Esports Fundraising Tournament Kicks Off Tomorrow to Support the International Game Developers Association Foundation
This month, Skillz announced a new partnership with the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) to empower game developers with new tools to build sustainable businesses by retaining, engaging, and monetizing their content.
To kick off the partnership, Skillz is hosting a mobile esports fundraising tournament to support efforts by the IGDA Foundation (IGDAF) to advance diversity and inclusion in the gaming community. The tournament starts tomorrow, Sept. 28, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 29, and 100% of all net revenue will be donated to IGDAF to empower the next generation of diverse talent. To participate, players can compete between 10am tomorrow and 12pm PT on Sunday in any of 12 Skillz games, including 21 Blitz, Bubble Shooter Tournaments, Cube Cube, Solitaire Cube, and Diamond Strike.
“Skillz is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community for all employees, game developers, partners, and players,” said Andrew Paradise. “Fair competition is our mission, and we are dedicated to leveling the playing field so anyone can embrace their inner champion.”
The IGDAF works to inspire young people to leap into game development and empower the next generation of diverse talent, while advocating for current leaders in the gaming industry. The foundation amplifies the positive achievements of the industry, delivers on impact-oriented projects, fosters new ideas, and collaborates on solutions to promote a game development community representative of and welcoming to every person who wants to make games.
Through this weekend’s fundraising tournament, Skillz and the IGDAF are uniting against the same vision of creating an inclusive gaming ecosystem that lends a voice to women, minorities, LGBTQ+, accessibility needs, and underserved communities.
To hear first-hand from Skillz about building inclusive environments, including creating, producing, playing, and streaming games, tune in for TwitchCon at 4pm PT on Sunday, Sept. 29. Skillz Chief Technology Officer Miriam Aguirre will be featured in a panel discussion alongside Twitch Partners Xmiramira, missharvey, and Rynn.
