Skillz Data Science Manager Speaks at Gaming Analytics Summit

Last week, our Data Science Manager, Pallas Horwitz, spoke at Innovation Enterprise’s Gaming Analytics Summit in San Francisco! Innovation Enterprise is a business media company specializing in enterprise innovation that is committed to spreading knowledge of innovative techniques and cutting-edge insights to the industry through both digital media and live summits.

The Gaming Analytics Summit is an event aimed at bringing together industry professionals, innovators and leaders through presentations, interactive breakout sessions and open discussion. Pallas has attended this summit in the past, and says she enjoys the intimacy of the events. She explained that Innovation Enterprise events tend to be smaller and more focused on people than sponsors, so the attendees are really able to get to know one another. This year’s summit focused on data science driving success in areas such as player research and interaction, retention strategies, machine learning, and gaming monetization.

Pallas was 1 of 25+ industry leaders speaking at the summit to senior employees from companies including Xbox, Ubisoft, Amazon and Sega. Pallas delivered a solo session about the intersection of business and gaming in data. “Having so many data people focused on games in one room is always exciting,” she comments.

During her presentation, Pallas explained how companies can use their data teams effectively, discussed how to identify key issues, and suggested ways in which conflicts could be resolved. She hopes the audience left with this key takeaway: although machine learning and AI have become more sophisticated modes of technology, data teams can only be effective if they’re on the same page as their business teams and work together to solve cross-departmental issues.
