A Message to Our Players

From the beginning, Skillz has been built on fair competition. When you enter a tournament, you should know that you are competing against real players and that outcomes are determined by skill.

During our litigation against Papaya Games, evidence was presented showing that Papaya used undisclosed automated opponents in its games at significant scale. Analysis indicated that in certain periods, a majority of participants on their platform were bots rather than real players. The evidence also showed that these automated players were designed to appear indistinguishable from humans and were used to fill games and to give human players a guaranteed result (i.e., a win, loss, or specific rank in the tournament).

In addition, evidence presented at trial indicated that Papaya advertised billions of dollars in prize pools that were not paid out to human players, with estimates exceeding $4.7 billion

We believe this is not how our industry should operate or how fair competition works, and we encourage you to read some of the press coverage on this topic.

This moment is important for the broader industry we pioneered. Players everywhere should expect honesty and integrity from the platforms they use, and we thank you for choosing to be a part of Skillz.

Best,

Andrew Paradise
