Skillzians Honored by the 2019 American Business Awards
Today, three Skillz employees were honored with American Business Awards (ABA). The “Stevie” Awards recognize the achievements of organizations and working professionals worldwide. Nominees are judged by over 200 respected executives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and business educators before winners are chosen. The 2019 ABA Stevie Award honorees, selected from amongst 3,800 candidates, will be celebrated during a gala banquet in June. Read about each Skillzian that was recognized below!
Roxie Bostwick, Communications Lead
Award Category: Communications Professional of the Year
Judge’s Comments Include: “Roxana seems like a real dynamo with impressive business acumen and leadership skills. She’s achieved strong results and is a true up-and-comer in the field. She is setting a new, higher bar for PR professionals and is destined for great things.”
Over the past 3.5 years at Skillz, Roxie has built a PR team of 5 people, consistently surpassing department goals and growing into our Communications Lead. She has earned our company numerous top-tier placements in the media and led the charge in securing our most impressive award wins, including Forbes’ Next Billion-Dollar Startups, Entrepreneur’s 100 Brilliant Companies, and the #1 spot on the Inc. 5000. In the last year alone, she’s also spearheaded major cross-departmental initiatives that have helped Skillz solidify our brand awareness and reach. We’re thrilled to have Roxie on our team and can’t wait to see what her future brings!
Sean Torrevilla, Office Manager
Award Category: Support Staffer of the Year
Judge’s Comments Include: “Office Managers of this caliber are the unsung heroes of the office. Planning office moves, expansions, and buildouts require continual focus and energy. Sean is a dedicated staffer with a clear passion for his work and company.”
Sean is our resident expert on all things operations. He works tirelessly to maintain a comfortable and safe office environment, from coordinating our weekly company-wide kick-off meetings and end-of-week wraps to supplying us with food and drinks to maintaining all of our facilities (and much, much more). What’s most impressive about Sean is his positive attitude – no matter how stressful work becomes, he always has a smile on his face. He truly embodies our company value of willingness, and the Skillz family is very grateful to have him!
Hope Pettway, Director of Program Management
Award Category: Product Developer of the Year
Judge’s Comments Include: “A genuine leader in the game, the candidate has overseen, created and managed several programs in the company and has been responsible in its growth. Impressive accomplishments.”
Hope has worked at Skillz for almost three years, growing from Senior Program Manager to Director of Program Management. She works cross-functionally with various teams at the company while leading her own team and establishing complex project timelines. Hope’s ability to uphold project delivery timelines and improve efficiency/scalability is impressive, to say the least. Over the last year, she has helped ensure the success of our product team and been a vital part of our greatest releases. We’re excited to see Hope continue to thrive with Skillz and proud of her awesome accomplishments!
